Book Recommendations
I often get asked for book recommendations regarding nutrition and health. While it’s hard to narrow it down, if I could recommend only three books to empower you in your health they would be:
The Metabolic Approach to Cancer by Dr. Nasha Winters and Jess Higgins Kelley
Radical Hope by Kelly Turner, Ph.D.
Women, Food, and Desire by Alexandra Jamieson
The first two books probably come as no surprise for oncology clients. The Metabolic Approach to Cancer helps you assess which specific areas of your terrain should be top priority, including practical applications for nutrition and lifestyle that you can start implementing right away. It’s a must-read foundation for prevention and those with active cancer. Radical Hope is the perfect accompaniment to the Metabolic Approach to Cancer. The stories of those with cancer and other diseases showcase the ten healing factors Kelly has found to be common amongst those with spontaneous healing and remission. Both books are steeped in case studies and science backed supporting studies, allowing you to feel confident in the information presented.
You may be a surprised about the last book recommendation, Women, Food and Desire. When it was released, this book spoke to the depths of my soul as a woman in early perimenopause and is applicable to all women - young and old. Alexandra helps women who chronically put the wellbeing of others before themselves uncover and explore lost desires and patterns of coping. Our health, ways of using food and eating, and activities and thoughts we choose to entertain are all interrelated to our health. We as women are often told we can do it all, but it often comes with a price. We lose touch with ourselves and our intuition which is critical to our health. This book provides the space and fosters the concepts to reignite our desires while nourishing our bodies with healthy food, activity, and connection.
I encourage you to read or listen to these books to gain practical and thoughtful guidance as you take ownership of your health and wellbeing. I’d love to hear from you about books that have made a difference in your healing journey!
